  • Audio Rec Booth will require 15 cm on floor and 30 cm at ceiling. Wall thickness: 30 cm
  • There are useful quantitites of left over materials from the IAFT construction, which can be used to save cost and time (ordering)

August 9th

Meeting MG & Matt - clarification of scope.

Meeting Finn, Giovanni and Ren at Mock-Up:

  • Decision to remove catwalk at upper level, thus widening all rooms.
  • Decision to move stairs to roof deck from inside to outside.
  • Decision to integrate captain's daybunk in wheelhouse.
  • Decision to incline wheelhouse windows forwards, thus gaining space and view.
  • Decision to add props room.

7 workers in mock-up.

August 8th

Meeting Finn and Giovanni (Naval Architect) at NorMar:

  • No plans yet!!! Very frustrating. (Giovanni had family troubles...) New deadline Friday 11th. Expecting hulls, electric, plumbing, fuel tanks, windows, exterior design and new price estimate.
  • Suggestion to remove catwalk at upper level. This would create a lot of extra space upstairs.
  • Possibility of ordering alu from Australia exists too.

Meeting Sarah:

  • discussed reasons for the sloow speed of work at mock-up.
  • clarification of to-do list
  • all walls double
  • mock up to all with plywood and plastic including shelves and functionality, basically everything excluding plumbing

One worker sleeping, one worker reading.

August 7th

Telephone Sarah: "Back to plywood. Please inform Ren and advise to continue with full speed including details, such as shelves etc."

Meeting Ren at mock up. Detailed explanation and adjustment of size of captain's day bunk, editing roon and audio booth.

August 5th

MG via email: "I only need the furniture mocked up in plywood, that's all, no need to use actual materials."

August 1st til August 4th

Email back and forth with Ren and Srah - revising floorplans and 3D designs.

July 29th

MG Email:

  • "I certainly want the mock up to move ahead full speed, just the actual schedule for CONSTRUCTION should be delayed."
  • Decision not to integrate audio recording room into screening room - thus work on upper deck can continue as planned. However - captain's day bunk has no desk and should be less wide. this space needs to be used to enlarge editing room (long desk on window side for two people)
  • MG plans to build further mock-up rooms in the sound stage. These will be used for a feature film "Deep Ocean" and built to scale.

July 27th

3D Designs - looking more functional - begin to arrive. Work halted in upper level of mock-up - awaiting MG's decision whether he likes the idea of integrating audio booth into screening.

July 25th

Mail Sarah expressing surpise about still not having any workers in mock-up and asking for explanation. Meanwhile I did receive scope of works for mock up and some design ideas. However, the interiour design is to be functional, not glossy yacht style.

Meeting Fritz (post production) at mock-up. Sizes of rooms suitable. Suggestions:

  • Long, wide table in editing room on window side for 2 pax
  • Audio editor sits towards front.
  • Integrate audio in the screening room

July 24th

  • not satelite, but GPRS
  • 1 phone per room intercom and outside line
  • wireless router for broadband internet all over ship

July 23rd

Meeting MG. Discussed -

  • Registration: private vs commercial -> set up meeting with NorMar <-> MG to clarify
  • Audio recording booth, price and conditions. (This will depend on registration.)
  • Interior design to be functional, not glossy yacht style
  • UW lighting - batteries preferred, but surface supplied. Suppliers?
  • July 21st

Long call to Sarah asking why neither the floor is being reinforced in mock-up as discussed on 18th, nor the breakdown of upcoming work, nor design ideas have reached me yet. Deadline was two days ago. The mock up budget - on the other hand - arrived yesterday finally after a mere 2 months of follow-up (first request per mail 25 May)

Call from Finn stating that they are visting AS today for measurements. Get back to them on Tuesday 25th

    July 19th

Meeting Rebecca and Laurie at mock-up. Discussed size and location of make-up and wardrobe.

    July 18th

    Meet MG - lighting requirements

    • two 3 x 3 meter grids with each ≈ 9 lights on a current-resistant, adjustable stand. Wattage per light???
    • If using 220 V - how safe is it for divers below? What systems are there? Can 12 or 24 V batteries (charged by generator) be used more safely instead?
    • Assuming - for example - 3 x 3 rows of 50 watt HDI lights on a grid, each 75 cm apart = 450 watts x two grids to eliminate shadows = 900 watts.

Meeting Sarah about preparation for detailed mock-up (Phase 3). Expect breakdown of work scope and design ideas by tomorrow.

    • floors needs to be reinforced
    • electric piping

    • swop rooms on upper floor from starboard to port

    July 17th

    Meeting MG

    • NorMar proposal for naval plans approved and signed
    • We need to know the lighting requirements in order to calculate wattage, which in turn will decide generator size, which in turn will decide size of engine room etc etc
    • Decision that mock-up should be more realistic than last discussed. An editor should be working in it for a few days. MG's private area should be build to scale and functionally. Lghting, feeling, materials all over...

    Meeting NorMar (Jens & Finn)

    • Discussed the proposal and its implementation
    • The vessel will be registered private
    • We can already make the precise new design whilst architect Giovanni makes the existing ones.
    • The new plans will provide a more realistic and appropriate cost estimation than the prior rough one.
    • Once / if this new cost estimate is approved we will be able to order alu immediately. Order time alu: approx 7 - 10 days
    • According to NorMar a realistic deadline (if we get going now) would be end of 2006

    July 11th

    Proposal arrives from NorMar

    • They will make plans of the existing structure (primarily hulls, electric, plumbing etc)
    • And will produce accordingly - plans of the future superstructure (incl electrical, plumbing etc)

Mail with Sarah: Now that the stability of the skeleton is established and there is a sturdy second floor -

            • it would be good if we could do the outer walls.
            • it would be great if the inner walls could be placed in such a temporary fashion that they can moved easily later, when we realize that a specific size is to big or small. Eg: just framing (2 x 2)
            • Please do not build any doors or such at this point. Just leave an open space through which to go in and out.

Gave OK by text to Michael (constr), Abe and Sarah to lift roof of mock-up

two additional meters (= 5) to allow for second story? Or more necessary?

            Meeting with Jens Hansen (Structure)

2nd story - even 3rd (for wheel house) is structurally no problem.

He strongly recommends though, removing all superstructure and starting from scratch, especially as the lower level's quality is insufficient (moisture and termites etc) to hold the weight of upper deck.

Also from a structural point of view - Everything above hull level can be removed - no problem.

Replacing the mast at front (for use as jib) is no problem either.

He is willing to check the quality of the hull, when AS is in dry-dock in the first week of April.

            Feb 20th

            Sarah:

New floor plans might be ready tomorrow
